Allegheny Aquatic Alliance was formed in February 2012. We are a newer organization yet we have accomplished much so far. In regard to our educational program, Pass It On, we have set up booths at 30 community events/functions throughout Allegheny, Butler, and Armstrong Counties to inform the attendees of water pollution issues. We held 18 lectures in community settings to teach the public about local and global water problems and how everyone can contribute to conserving and protecting our water. Therefore, we have educated thousands of people about our water threats and how to take action. In addition, we have conducted 6 workshops with hands-on demonstrations for 2 programs, Communities Against Chemicals and Hydroponics For Hope. Both programs were funded through grants. Regarding our cleanup program, Pick That Up, we have successfully removed 275,125 pounds of garbage, including 2,615 tires from our precious waterways!
This year we also constructed two new public creek accesses/boat launches on Connoquenessing Creek through a grant by Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.
Renfrew Canoe Launch: 101 West Main St. Renfrew, PA 16053
Major Washington Canoe Launch: 252 Ash Stop Rd. Evans City, PA 16033
In addition, we are partnering with American Rivers to remove an obsolete dam on Connoquenessing Creek in Renfrew in 2017.
